Summary: This is a book of heart-felt poems that is geared towards bringing people closer
New Poetry Book by Gary Lloyd James: A New Horizon, Carteret NEW JERSEY, -November 30, 2007 -
“A New Horizon” is a 128-page collection of poems by Gary James. With a strong emphasis on clarity, his poems tend to read like short stories, and many believe that this author is placing poetry back into the hands of the average person. He has taken it upon himself to use his poetry to speak out against many controversial issues that seem to get swept under the rug. Issues like domestic violence, Gary has created a CD entitled “Stone Pillow”, which holds 14 tracks of poems that give vivid details of women in this hostile environment.
Gary’s poems have been known to bring grown men to tears. In one instance Gary was approached by an older gentleman who proceeded to give his testimony of how the author’s previous book, “Untied Feelings,” that touched his heart. With a somber look on his face he explained how one particular poem, “As I Let You Go,” had basically stop him in his tracks, because his son had passed away about five years earlier and he was having a hard time letting go. He said the poem moved him because he believes it expressed how he felt. He then jumped in his car, drove 10 miles to his ex-wife’s home, showed her the poem, and they both sat and wept for their son.
ABOUT AUTHOR
Gary Lloyd James is a minister at the New Light Baptist Church in Bloomfield NJ. He does not see himself as a traditional poet. This is mainly due to the fact that his poetry was not learned, but rather given to him as a gift from God. Gary explained the “gift” this way. “I had absolutely no interest in poetry until the night of July 18, 2004, when I had a dream of a woman being abused by her spouse and that scene caused something inside me to snap. I rose up the next morning with this burden on my mind wanting so badly to do something, anything, to help these women who are facing this situation on a daily basis.”
Gary Lloyd James seeks to use his poetry as a type of bridge to connect the hearts and minds of those of us who are traveling through life at break-neck speed, with those who are finding it difficult to hang on.
